Activision Blizzard: Diablo Immortals delayed to 2022 / New ‘Call of Duty’ mobile game confirmed

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

Despite all the noise going on around Activision Blizzard these days, the company held its quaterly earnings call today (August 3, 2021) as scheduled.

Two items were of interest to us.

Diablo Immortal

Some might not remember, but the game was originally announced at Blizzcon 2018. Needless to say, the community was quite underwhelmed by the news at the time.

It took about a year for a trailer the see the light of day; and another year (December 2020) for Diablo Immortal to enter its first alpha test. Alpha tests have been expanding since then, which led the team to confidently assume a 2021 release was realistic.

Today, Activision Blizzard has confirmed that the game will not be launched until the first half of 2022 in order to properly address the testers’ feedback.

Seeing how other titles opted for an early release (Cyberpunk 2077), it feels like a smart decision.

New mobile Call of Duty game confirmed

While the announcement came with little to no details, Activision Blizzard did confirm nonetheless that a new Call of Duty game for mobile devices is in the works.

The current Call of Duty: Mobile, developped by Activision and TiMi Studios, is currently expected to generate over $1 billion in revenues for 2021.

That said, it would appear that Activision Blizzard has created a brand new internal studio which would focus specifically on mobile development with the support of their subsidiaries Beenox (Canada) and Activision Shanghai (China).

No additional details have been provided for now.
